I’ve probably said it a thousand times but I hate putting crap in my hair - silicones, parabens, sulphates…all of that has to go! So my latest test drive is with Matrix Biolage. They created the R.A.W. line which stands for Real, Authentic, and Wholesome. It’s made of 97% natural ingredients and is 99% biodegradable. The shampoo and conditioner are so raw you can probably eat it!
The branding around the RAW range is very representative of their mission. It looks like a juice bottle you’d pickup at a raw juicery. The labeling is simple and clean. Not cluttered by graphics or over feminized which compliments their messaging of less is more. The bottles are made from 100% recycled retail packaging and is 99% biodegradable - minimizing environmental impact.
The RAW collection offers three lines for different hair types: Nourish (dry hair), Recover (stressed hair), Uplift (fine hair). Biolage sent me the Nourish shampoo and conditioner being as my hair tends to be on the dry side. The Nourish range contains organic ingredients like honey, coconut oil, quinoa husk, and caramel. You can go to the Matrix Biolage RAW website to see their full ingredients chart.
All of these ingredients makes it smell amazing which is great when you wash your hair in the morning like I do. It makes the chore so much more of a pleasurable experience and the smell stays with your hair throughout the day. I personally really like it when my shampoo lathers up because it makes me feel like my hair is really being cleaned. With the RAW Nourish Shampoo, the lather was really thick. I normally do 2 shampoos because I have so much hair but with the Nourish Shampoo I only lathered up once. After I rinsed the shampoo out, my hair felt clean and not like I have anything coating the strands.
The real test to me is the conditioner. I use a ton of conditioner on my hair and I hate when the conditioner is watery because that means I have to use a lot of it. With the RAW Nourish Conditioner, I only had to use a dollop about the size of silver dollar. I always condition the ends of hair first and work my way up to my scalp. It was enough to condition all of my hair. Afterward, my hair felt moisturized and smooth.
I think Matrix Biolage RAW products are pretty good at addressing hair challenges in a natural responsible way. Next on my list is to try their Nourish Hair Mask. I’ll let you know when I do!
