For so long I’ve been religiously micromanaging my diet and to be honest, it’s exhausting! Some weeks I’m eating like a normal person and other weeks I’m micro managing my macros in preparation for a big shoot.
This week it was really nice to have a break from planning and prepping while also being able to maintain my diet and not falling completely off the wagon. I tried a plant based meal prep service called LA Fit Foods. Plant Based and Sports Nutritionist Rasheeta Joy Fields. I meant Rasheeta when she moved to L.A.
LA Fit Foods focuses on proving macronutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, and fat to meet health goals, making it a great match for people who want to lose weight, build muscle, or are simply trying to maintain their weight and manage a busy lifestyle.
As I’ve mentioned on this blog before (and for my readers who actually know me personally), my history with vegan and vegetarianism is a long one. Some may actually still consider me a part time vegetarian/vegan. I’m very lucky that Mr. DJR will generally eat whatever I eat with some added protein but it’s hard juggling two different dietary needs. I generally only cook once a day for dinner. During the day we both fend for ourselves.
What I loved about the meals Rasheeta prepared for us is that she completely understood my dietary needs and my active lifestyle. It was really simple to place my order on LAFitFoods.com and select the meals I wanted. Once you input your information, you’re also prompted to make any notes regarding allergies. For example, I’m very soy sensitive and Mr. DJR can’t eat mushrooms. I know it’s hard to prepare vegan meals without soy products and mushrooms but Rasheeta was really creative with our meals!
Our meals included: Beef and Broccoli Bowl, Earth Bowl, Fruit and Chia Seed Pudding Bowl (she really know my heart) , and the Fruit and Nut Butter Bowl. Menus change frequently so you never have to worry about getting tired of eating the same thing.
When we sat down to eat our Beef and Broccoli bowls, Mr. DJR literally said, “Wow, these veggies are really good!” Words I rarely hear come out of his mouth! We agreed that they kind of had an Chinese pickled veggies flavor to them. I also really loved the chai seed pudding. It’s a really good supplement for yogurt if you’re trying to go non-diary. The Earth Bowl was great for lunch because it was both filling and light. I felt like I was energized instead of the all to often lithargic feeling you often get after eating lunch. Having fruit already cut up and ready to eat definitely helped Mr. DJR get more fruits into his diet. On most days, he’ll eat a banana because it’s easy but rarely will he eat an apple or strawberries if he has to cut it up himself.
There’s so many benefits to meal prep. You save time and money, having meal prepared for you helps with weight & diet control because your saving sizes are controlled, and it makes it easier to maintain a healthy diet since each meal provides a balanced approach to nutrition.
