Why You Should Buy An Essential Oil Diffuser?

I mentioned several months back that we moved to a new apartment and with the move came a lot of other lifestyle changes surrounding our desire to have more quiet time (while still living in the city), less dust, a better nights sleeps and overall well being! Who doesn’t want that, right?

Over time we broke down what steps we should take in order to achieve these goals, some of which included choosing an interior unit versus facing the city streets, like in our last building. We also decided on no “entertainment” in the bedroom, i.e. television, laptops, phones or any devices in general. However, we did add one new gadget that has transformed our daily meditations and sleep - an essential oil diffuser!

We went back and forth about getting one for a while. I guess because it’s easy to categorize a diffuser as a nonessential household item and we just thought we may be being too extra. If you’re undecided about purchasing an essential oil diffuser than allow me to explain why investing in one may be the best thing you’ve ever done for your overall health and wellness. You’ll likely end up like me attempting to carry your diffuser around with you everywhere as if it’s a newborn baby.

Inhaling the right oil, at the right time can do wonders for channeling  inner peace when you feel like you’re going to lose your shit over the latest news, improve your health by boosting limbic system even while living in a crowded smoggy city, and  achieve more restful sleep which I can not emphasis enough how much of a difference quality of sleep can make.

Youre likely wondering how the combination of essential oils and a humidifier work? When you inhale the mist of essential oils, the molecules are absorbed through membranes in the nasal cavity which allows for the limbic system to absorb the molecules.

We’re really trying to maximize on the benefits of essential oils through aromatherapyMr. DJR often deals with terrible nasal congestion so we decided the diffuser we should get had to be a humidifying diffuser. They’re the most common ones you’ll find. The most important thing was that it wasn’t so clunky that we couldn’t easily move it to a different room or clean it when necessary.

For his congestion, we’ve been adding eucalyptus oil at night. During the morning I like to change the essential oil to lavender to rid myself of the morning head fog and get some clarity. On the weekend we tend to switch it up and add lemongrass or sweet orange oil to reduce dust allergens and improve indoor air quality. When I’m feeling stressed and anxious I go straight for the rosemary oil.

Surprisingly there’s little maintenance involved. Our diffuser came with a water cup so it’s easy to refill, add an essential oil and set the timer to our desired length. Our diffuser holds 300ml of water and has a timer option of 1 - 6 hours on timed mode. It will automatically shut down when water runs out.

The most important thing you need to know is not to keep it by a window. It’s tempting to think that fresh air mixed with the essential oils will be best but in reality, the good stuff just goes out the window. So keep your diffuser more towards the center of the room.

Theres a ton of options and price ranges out there for humidifiers and diffusers but I don’t think you need to spend a fortune to start gaining to benefits of having an essential oil diffuser in your home. You should spend no more than $20-30 on a diffuser that is reliable. We found ours for $24.96 with free shipping. We purchased our oils separately because we wanted to hand select each of our oils but there are also kits available. I’ve curated a short selection of my top oils that you can shop here.

If you’ve got a favorite essential oil you think I should try, I’d love to hear about it!
