Natalia Pereira's WoodSpoon| Authentic. Beautiful. Warm| DTLA's Brazilian Kitchen

Macaroni & Cheese with sausage and fried egg
I can’t believe I’ve never posted about WoodSpoon. WoodSpoon is this beautiful Brazilian boutique style restaurant in the fashion district of Downtown Los Angeles. First let me tell you, if the boyfriend wanted to eat here every night, I would have no objection and that's a mouthful coming from me.

It’s the kind of place where you just feel at home and you feel like you are connected to everyone in the restaurant. I some times feel like I’m a part of the conversation of complete strangers at the table next to us.

So, what compelled me to write about WoodSpoon on Daisi Jo Reviews is that last week I ran into Natalia, the owner and chef of WoodSpoon and we shared a couple of glasses of wine and conversation. She shared with me that she was going to be featured in the upcoming issue of LA Downtowner ( and I thought that was fantastic! We joked about the last time we ate at WoodSpoon because  I had shared with her that my guy had a photo of his favorite dish from her restaurant on his iPhone screensaver.

This now iPhone Famous and soon to be Instagram famous dish is a special at WoodSpoon. It’s the photo up top - so beautiful it should be framed!  It’s macaroni  & cheese with sausage and a fried egg on top. It’s the best thing I’ve ever had! I know I say this about a lot of things but really, its pretty great! Unfortunately, you just have to luck up to try it because it’s only served at Natalia’s discretion.

That’s only one of the great dishes offered at WoodSpoon. Of course being caribbean, I’m favorable to the plantains and WoodSpoon serves them with all of their Brazilian Grill plates. The beef grill and the fish (Tilapia filet) are  two of my favorites. I’ve also tried some pretty amazing deserts at WoodSpoon which means that I’ll probably need to make another post in the future! As funny as this probably reads, you can gladly go there just for the water because everything in the restaurant has Natalia’s touch of culture, beauty and authenticity. The water is flavored with cinnamon, fruits and herbs. You never no which carafe you are going to get - one just shows up and it never disappoints.

I know a lot of my readers aren’t in LA but if you you are ever in Los Angeles, this is definitely an experience I highly recommend.
