I have been really working on finding my “voice” with this blog and so posts and videos are a hit or miss but one thing is for sure, the internal theme I am always conjuring together is the combination of beauty and business. Since this is the month of November which starts the holiday season off in full force right after Thanksgiving,  on way companies are convincing you to spend more money is through partnering with charities to donate a portion of proceeds to organizations that do social and community deeds. It’s not a new trick and in fact it is not a trick at all. The partnership between for profit and non-profit companies works great on both ends of the spectrum. I am no prude to this relationship being as I run non-profit and a for-profit businesses myself. However, there are always fine lines to respect in this relationship between charities an commercial business when it comes to the ethical relationship with their customers and those that just want to give.

Birchbox announced on their November postcard insert that got delivered in each persons box that they are donating a portion of the proceeds to the No Kid Hungry organization. This is a fantastic way to bring awareness to a cause that affects all of us whether we are rich or poor. What I thought Birchbox could have done to get subscribers more involved is tell us how much they are donating in place of using "a portion of the proceeds”. In a relationship between charities and for-profit businesses this can some times mean that an exact amount in terms of percentage has not been worked out yet. That percentage could end up being very small in comparison to what a customer may be thinking will be donated to the charity from their shopping with that business. So, next time your shopping online and the retailer is promoting a charity that will benefit from your purchases. Look to see if they tell you how much they are donating. If you can’t find it, send them an email to ask. That way you can determine how much of your buying power is going to the cause you want to support.

Enough of business talk, lets get down to the unboxing goods! Thanks goodness for chocolate! Birchbox warmed my heart this month with their “Find Alert!” I ate the Ghirardelli for breakfast! Hey, why not? …and then I played in makeup! Check out the goods!
